Elsewedy Machinery has marked a significant milestone in the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project with the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for Hitachi’s Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems at Hitachi’s facility in Barcelona.
The milestone was achieved in the presence of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), the project’s end customer, alongside representatives from the main contracting joint venture, including Orascom Construction, The Arab Contractors, and Elsewedy PSP. The successful completion of the test represents a critical step in validating system readiness ahead of deployment across one of the region’s most transformative infrastructure projects.
What sets this achievement apart is its scale and technical significance. It marks a first-of-its-kind Factory Acceptance Test for VRF technology on a project of this magnitude, ensuring that all systems meet stringent standards for performance, reliability, and energy efficiency prior to installation. This process plays a central role in minimizing operational risks and ensuring long-term system performance once deployed.
As the official partner of Hitachi in Egypt, Elsewedy Machinery continues to play a key role in delivering advanced HVAC solutions tailored to the requirements of large-scale infrastructure developments. Its involvement in the HSR project reflects its ability to support complex projects through a combination of technical expertise, strong partnerships, and integrated delivery capabilities.
Reflecting on this milestone, Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy, President & CEO of Elsewedy Electric shared: “The successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Test marks a critical step in ensuring that all systems meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and energy efficiency ahead of deployment. This achievement reflects the strength of collaboration between all project stakeholders and reinforces our shared commitment to delivering high-quality, future-ready infrastructure solutions.”
Through its continued contribution to the HSR project, Elsewedy Machinery is further strengthening its role in enabling advanced infrastructure solutions, supporting the development of next-generation transport systems across the region.

The collaboration aligns with the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable urban development and delivering integrated utilities solutions that meet the evolving needs of modern communities.
Elsewedy Electric Infrastructure is proud to highlight its advanced engagement in Southmed Water Desalination Plant, poised to become one of Egypt’s largest desalination facilities with a total capacity of 160,000 m³/day.
The plant is designed with eight (8) independent streams, each producing 20,000 m³/day. With an anticipated value of USD 150 million, the project is initiated by the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces – Water Management Department, with project activities expected to run from 2026 to 2028. EEI will take over the full EPC scope, covering civil, electromechanical, MEP, landscape, infrastructure, and commissioning works.
This strategic milestone underscores EEI’s continued commitment to delivering major national water projects that advance Egypt’s sustainable development goals.
Elsewedy Electric T&D has signed a contract for the construction of a regional 30 MWp Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant with 17 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Matourkou, Burkina Faso, with SONABEL, the National Electricity Company of Burkina Faso, as the client.
The contract signing took place in December 2025, in the presence of Eng. Mosaad Abd El Naby, Renewable energy director at EETD, marking an important step in expanding EETD’s renewable energy footprint across Africa.
The project, financed under the KfW–SONABEL framework, includes the full EPC scope for the solar plant and storage system, in addition to two years of operation and maintenance. Once completed, the project will support Burkina Faso’s efforts to enhance energy reliability and increase the share of clean energy in its power mix.
This award reflects EETD’s continued commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions and supporting regional energy development.
Once completed, the project will strengthen Burkina Faso's energy reliability while increasing the share of clean energy in its power mix. This award projects EETD's ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions as well as supporting long term regional energy development.
