Elsewedy Industrial Development Signs Land Agreement with CJN

Elsewedy Industrial Development has signed a land agreement with Kunming Chuanjinnuo Chemical Co. (CJN), a global leader in phosphate-based industries, under which CJN will develop its integrated phosphate chemical industries complex within SOKHNA360 in SCZONE. 

Eng. Mohamed AlKammah, CEO of Elsewedy Industrial Development, and Mr. Huang Qiuhan, CEO of CJN Egypt, signed the agreement at the Government Headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly; Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the General Authority of SCZONE; Dr. Nahed Youssef, Chairwoman of the Industrial Development Authority; Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy, President & CEO of Elsewedy Electric; Mr. Mohamed Mostafa, CFO of Elsewedy Industrial Development; senior industry leaders; and the official CJN delegation. 

The project marks one of the largest specialized phosphate chemical industrial complexes in the Middle East, with total investments of nearly USD 1 billion. Spanning 905,000 square meters within SOKHNA360, the complex will be developed in three phases and is expected to create around 10,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, with a significant portion of its production exported to markets across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. 

Construction will begin with Phase I in 2026, with operations expected to start in 2028. This phase will focus on maximizing value from Egypt’s phosphate resources through the production of phosphoric acid, as well as DAP and TSP fertilizers, each with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons. Phase II, scheduled to begin in 2029, with commercial operation in 2031, will introduce high-purity specialty phosphate chemicals, including purified phosphoric acid for industrial and food-grade applications and potassium dihydrogen phosphate, marking the first time these products are manufactured in the Middle East. 

In Phase III, launching in 2032 with production starting in 2034, the complex will expand into advanced materials for new energy applications, including electric vehicle battery components such as lithium iron phosphate and lithium dihydrogen phosphate. This phase further strengthens Egypt’s position as a regional hub for EV battery materials and future industries. 

The project also includes the establishment of a dedicated Research and Development Center during Phase I to support innovation in phosphate-based chemical technologies, facilitate knowledge transfer, and enable full industrial localization. 

Commenting on the agreement, Eng. Mohamed AlKammah said: “The project represents a major leap in specialized industries within ‘SOKHNA360,’ not only due to its investment magnitude but also for deploying technologies that support future industries, particularly battery materials and new energy solutions. It reflects global investors’ trust in Egypt’s ability to become a regional industrial hub capable of producing and exporting high-value products worldwide, supporting Egypt’s vision to increase exports to USD 100 billion in the coming years.” 

Mr. Huang Qiuhan, CEO of CJN Egypt, added: “Egypt was chosen due to its exceptional logistical advantages and its vast phosphate reserves, in addition to SCZONE’s ability to provide an industrial ecosystem capable of supporting global supply chains at competitive costs. This project will be the largest overseas expansion in CJN’s history.” 

Beyond that, Midgulf, a global trading company specializing in industrial fertilizers, will participate as a shareholder and will hold marketing rights for part of the project’s output. The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship, including Egypt’s first shipment of raw phosphate to China in 2022, which helped lay the groundwork for this development. 

Developed and operated by Elsewedy Industrial Development, SOKHNA360 spans over 10 million square meters and is designed as a fully integrated industrial city. Strategically located on the Red Sea within SCZONE, it offers direct access to major global trade routes connecting Africa, Asia, and Europe, while providing a comprehensive ecosystem that integrates industrial, logistics, residential, commercial, and educational components. 

With this agreement in place, Elsewedy Industrial Development continues to strengthen its role in enabling large-scale industrial investments, supporting export growth, and advancing Egypt’s position in high-value global supply chains.
