Elsewedy Electric Indonesia Drives Australia's Grid Resilience Through Victoria's Solar and BESS Projects

Elsewedy Electric Indonesia has successfully delivered critical power transformers for two of Victoria's key renewable energy projects in Australia, a 250 MW Solar Farm and a 250 MW / 650 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), reinforcing its role in supporting the country's clean energy transition and grid resilience. The company supplied a total of four 150 MVA, 220/33 kV transformers that serve as the heart of the infrastructure, stepping up generated and stored power for efficient transmission into Victoria's 220 kV transmission network.

 

The projects mark a significant milestone for Elsewedy Electric Indonesia's expanding renewable energy portfolio. Through a highly collaborative framework between the utility and the OEM, supported by an early award strategy that accelerated the design process and long-lead-item procurement, the company supplied four 150 MVA, 220/33 kV transformers engineered to meet the demanding technical requirements of renewable energy integration. The transformer design was also validated for short-circuit withstand capability, dielectric insulation performance against transient overvoltage, and thermal parameter guarantees to meet stringent grid safety requirements.

 

Designed to enhance grid reliability, the transformers incorporate thermally upgraded kraft paper insulation for long-term performance under Australia's high ambient temperatures, low Partial Discharge (PD) technology to maximize insulation longevity and minimize the risk of internal faults, a specialized ONAN/ODAF cooling system for enhanced thermal performance, and a five-limb core configuration that reduces transport height while increasing zero-sequence impedance to help lower fault current levels. Rigorous testing, Hold Point Inspections, and comprehensive quality reviews also ensured full compliance with customer specifications and international standards.

 

Delivered in less than one year from contract signing, the projects demonstrate Elsewedy Electric Indonesia's engineering expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality, technically advanced energy infrastructure. While the solar farm strengthens Victoria's renewable generation capacity, the BESS project represents the company's first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) supply in Australia, further expanding its global footprint in sustainable energy solutions and reaffirming its commitment to supporting the global transition toward a resilient and sustainable energy future.
